We had work done at our facility - I reviewed the documents for what little life safety issues there were (exiting from structures, etc)...most of the other items (concrete structures etc) were inspected by the engineering firm that designed it and was retained for that purpose.

We had one in Iowa City a few years ago. Inspections were a combination of special inspector, Housing & Inspection Services inspections, and City Engineering Dept. inspections. It's been awhile and I'd have to go back to track how we broke things down as to who did what.
